Anil Dash writing on his blog about the importance of being about to write well. And he’s not just talking about documenting the code you write, he touches on everything from spreadsheets to presentations to reports.

And I can’t agree more. Intercom has a very strong culture of writing things down, then using it as a way to convince people of the merits of your idea. It’s one of the things I’ve tried to continue doing after leaving there.

Software courses, whether they’re top tier universities or coding bootcamps are doing a disservice to their students if they don’t have a module on communications. I think the ability to convey your ideas in writing should be considered important at every level, but they’re table stakes for anyone even remotely senior.
